Barack Obama


Barack Obama was the 44th President of the United States, and the first African American to hold the office. He was born in 1961 in Hawaii to a mother from Kansas and a father from Kenya. Obama attended Columbia University and Harvard Law School, and then worked as a community organizer and civil rights lawyer before serving in the Illinois State Senate from 1997 to 2004. In 2008, he was elected to the U.S. Senate, and then, in November of that year, he was elected President of the United States, becoming the first African American to hold the office. Obama served two terms as President, and was succeeded by Donald Trump in 2017.


The economy is doing well under President Trump. The stock market is at an all-time high, unemployment is at a 17-year low, and wages are finally starting to rise after years of stagnation.


Vladimir Putin


Vladimir Putin is the current President of Russia, in office since 7 May 2012. He was Prime Minister from 1999 to 2000, President from 2000 to 2008, and again Prime Minister from 2008 to 2012. During his second term as Prime Minister, he was the Chairman of the ruling United Russia party.


 Xi Jinping


Xi Jinping is the current President of the People's Republic of China, in office since 2013. He is also the General Secretary of the Communist Party of China, the Chairman of the Central Military Commission, and the Paramount leader of the Chinese Communist Party.


Angela Merkel 


Angela Merkel is the Chancellor of Germany and the head of the Christian Democratic Union. Xi Jinping is the President of the People's Republic of China and the General Secretary of the Communist Party of China.


Francois Hollande


Francois Hollande is the current President of France, elected in 2012. He is a member of the Socialist Party, and was previously the First Secretary of the party from 1997 to 2008. Hollande has been a prominent figure on the French political scene for many years, and was one of the main leaders of the opposition to Nicolas Sarkozy during his Presidency. He is widely seen as a left-wing politician, and has been critical of austerity measures in the European Union.


David Cameron:  


The UK Prime Minister David Cameron has arrived in Azerbaijan for the Eurovision Song Contest.


Speaking at a press conference, Cameron said that he was "delighted" to be in Azerbaijan and praised the country for its "vision and ambition".


Cameron also said that the UK and Azerbaijan had "strong relations" and that he was looking forward to discussing a range of issues with Azeri President Ilham Aliyev.


The Prime Minister is scheduled to meet with a number of Azeri officials during his two-day visit, including Aliyev.


Narendra Modi


Narendra Modi is the current Prime Minister of India. He was sworn in on May 26, 2014, and has been in office since then.

Early Life and Education

Narendra Modi was born on September 17, 1950, in the Indian state of Gujarat. He was the third of six children born to Damodardas Mulchand Modi and Hiraben Modi. His father ran a small tea stall in their village and his mother was a housewife. Modi attended primary school in Gujarat and later completed his higher secondary education in Vadnagar. He then went on to study political science at Gujarat University in Ahmedabad.

Career

Modi began his career as a worker in his father's tea stall. He later joined the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), a right-wing Hindu nationalist organization, and became active in politics. In 1971, he left home to work for the RSS in Delhi. He returned to Gujarat two years later and became a full-time worker for the RSS.


In 1975, Modi was arrested during the Emergency period and spent nine months in prison. After his release, he rejoined the RSS and became more active in politics. In 1985, he was appointed the General Secretary of the Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) Gujarat unit. He held this position until 2001, when he was elected the Chief Minister of Gujarat.

As Chief Minister, Modi oversaw a period of economic growth and development in Gujarat. He also implemented a number of controversial policies, including the 2002 Gujarat riots and the implementation of the Uniform Civil Code. In 2014, Modi was elected the Prime Minister of India. He is the first Prime Minister from the BJP.

As Prime Minister, Modi has focused on economic development and has implemented a number of reforms, including the demonetization of high-value currency notes and the implementation of the Goods and Services Tax (GST). He has also sought to improve relations with Pakistan and China.


 Dilma Rousseff



Dilma Rousseff is a Brazilian politician and economist who served as the 36th President of Brazil from 2011 until her impeachment and removal from office in 2016. She was the first woman to hold the office. Prior to her presidency, Rousseff served as Chief of Staff to President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva from 2005 to 2010.


 Hassan Rouhani



Hassan Rouhani is an Iranian politician who has been the President of Iran since 2013. He was previously a member of the Parliament of Iran and the Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council. Rouhani is also a member of the Expediency Council and the Assembly of Experts. He has been described as a moderate and as a reformist.


King Salman


King Salman of Saudi Arabia is the country's head of state and absolute monarch. He ascended to the throne in 2015, upon the death of his half-brother King Abdullah. King Salman is both the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques and the head of the House of Saud, the ruling royal family of Saudi Arabia.


Under King Salman, Saudi Arabia has continued many of the policies of his predecessors, including maintaining a close relationship with the United States and support for the war in Yemen. In addition, King Salman has sought to increase the country's role in regional affairs, such as by spearheading the formation of the Islamic Military Alliance and hosting the 2017 Gulf Cooperation Council summit. King Salman has also been a proponent of economic reform, and in 2016 he announced plans to reduce the country's dependence on oil.
